Mary is a Partner at AWS Legal, based in Alexandra, where she specialises in commercial, rural, and residential property transactions, as well as trusts, estates, and estate planning. Her legal expertise is complemented by over two decades of hands-on experience farming in the Ida Valley alongside her husband, giving her a deep understanding of rural business, land use, and the practical realities of life in Central Otago.

Mary brings extensive governance experience to her work, having served on a range of boards over many years. Her previous governance roles include nine years on the Vincent Community Board, nine years with Irrigation New Zealand, four years with the Rural Otago Primary Health Organisation, nine years with Central Otago Health Inc, and three years with the Southern District Health Board.

She currently serves as a Trustee of The Healthcare Otago Charitable Trust, a Director of the Ida Valley Irrigation Company, and a Trustee of the Dempsey Trust.

The health and wellbeing of her rural community are central to Mary’s values. She believes that wellbeing extends beyond physical health to include economic resilience and sustainability, an outlook reflected in her long-standing involvement in both the health and irrigation sectors. Her blend of legal expertise, practical rural experience, and governance leadership makes her a valued and insightful member of The Healthcare Otago Charitable Trust board.
